The Patratu Thermal Power Station’s new projects— the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project — are currently under construction and managed by Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), a joint venture between NTPC (74%) and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (26%).

- Phase I (3 × 800 MW):
- All three units are under construction.
- The first unit was expected to be commissioned by October 2024, but the latest updates indicate that the first unit may be commissioned by October 2025, with the remaining two units to be commissioned in 2026 depending on construction progress.
- Phase II (2 × 800 MW):
- Still in the planning stage.
- No permits or clearances have been granted as of now, and plans appear to be deferred or on hold.
